Exciting stuff, for parents & grandparents at least! And, although her little tooth doesn't look very sharp, believe me, it is!

This is Daddy & me getting ready to go home from the hospital (2 days old).

I was jaundiced for the first week of my life and they had to prick my little heels every day until it got better :-( (4 days old).

I'm smiling at my Daddy...or maybe it was just gas (4 days old).

I am a happy girl after I finish nursing! (6 days old)

I am also happy when my Grammie holds me while I'm sleeping (6 days old).

This is my first bath. It was a little bit scary (7 days old).

Sleeping is one of my favorite things to do, although I prefer if someone holds me while I do it (9 days old).

Our little Karis was born April 18 at 3:11 PM! She weighed 7 lbs & was 19 in long. Daddy, Mommy & Baby are all tired & doing well!

39 weeks! Everyone tells me how small I am. It's only been the last couple weeks that people in public actually recognize that I'm pregnant. The doctor says that Karis is small--she'll probably weigh around 6 lbs. when she comes.

It's a Girl!

Here is a picture of our sweet little girl at 20 weeks. (The side of her head got cut off in the picture.) The doctor said everything looks perfect anatomically. She currently weighs 13 oz. and is moving around a lot (and I feel her kicking quite a bit). It was so fun for us to see the 3-D live feed of her little face, moving her mouth and her fist. Her due date is still right around April 16.

Quick Baby Update

Thanks to everyone for the congrats! I am now almost 17 weeks along. I have just started getting over "morning" sickness that lasted all day, and it's so nice to be feeling better! I still don't like a lot of food and haven't returned to cooking meals for Ryan (poor guy), but I'm definitely on the mend. We should have our 20 week ultrasound at the end of Nov or early Dec, and that's when we'll find out if it's a boy or girl.

Well, I guess it's time for our quarterly blog update! Ryan has now completed his first year of seminary, totaling 21 semester hours. This spring, he took Hermeneutics, Hebrew Syntax & Exegesis, Intro to Biblical Counseling and Church History II, and he really enjoyed all his classes. Here are a few other things that happened this winter:

January started off on a bit of a bad note as the Colts lost to the Chargers in the playoffs. I was excited to see Marvin Harrison play (since he was injured most of the season), so I took this picture of him in the game. Unfortunately, this was shortly before he fumbled a great pass and basically lost the game for the Colts. Oh well, there's always next season. And, we were cheered up by the fact that we got to see the Giants beat the Patriots in the SuperBowl!

Chance also visited us in January, and we had a great time with him! Here we are playing Settlers of Catan, a game that you should own if you do not already. I think we played 6 games with Chance. Ryan won the first 5 and Jennie Kay won the 6th. Poor Chance. He was a good sport.

We were very excited to see our first bit of snow in Louisville in January.

But it was nothing compared to the storm we experienced in March!

Christmas in Oregon

Yes, we do realize that Christmas was 4 months ago, but maybe if we keep posting, we'll eventually catch up with real life.

We didn't get a Christmas tree in Kentucky this year, so these were the simple Christmas decorations in our apartment (these are for you, Mom Harrell)...

We flew to Portland, Oregon to spend Christmas with Jennie Kay's parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephews (above: Ethan, Gavin & Comfort). There we were treated to snowfall on Christmas morning (although it all melted by the afternoon)!

American Idol

Lately, American Idol has been a significant source of entertainment for us. This is the first season that we've watched in its entirety. We started out just wanting to see the funny first auditions, and then we got hooked. This is not because it's the "most talented Top 24 ever"; in fact, we think most of the Top 24 contestants are pretty ridiculous. However, there are some people who we really like. So here, if you care to know, are the Lunsfords' expert "Idol" picks:

Basically, we will be upset if David Archuleta doesn't win this competition. He has blown everyone out of the water so far. All he has to do is get up on stage and sing--no guitar, no dance moves, no trying to look like a cool rocker--and we are blown away. This is because, simply, his voice is more pleasant to listen to than anyone else's. There are actually very few people whose voices we really like, and we really enjoy listening to his.

Okay, we don't really know if Brooke is an American Idol, but we like her voice. It's unique. And, she's really sweet.

Asia'h also has a unique voice, and we think she's a good performer. And she is not annoying like most of the other girls.

We really liked Syesha during Hollywood week, but lately she just hasn't been nailing her performances. However, we still like her & hope she gets better.

Michael has a nice voice, and he is also not annoying like most of the other guys.

Jason is a little annoying, but we think he has a good voice & something unique to offer.

And last, but certainly not least...

Simon Cowell...What would the show be without him? A whole lot of rubbish, that's what. He really does make American Idol worth watching.

Thanksgiving/Christmas in Texas

Oops! We forgot to do a post about Thanksgiving in Texas! The reason we forgot is because we don't have any of our own pictures from it because we forgot to take our camera. :( We drove to San Antonio the weekend before Thanksgiving and were there for a week. Since we weren't going to be in Texas for Christmas, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday & Christmas on Friday & Saturday. This means we got half of our Christmas shopping done a month early! Here are just a couple pics from the trip that someone else in our family took.

Matt & Kara's Visit

We had so much fun hosting Matt & Kara when they were in the area for Matt's residency program interviews!

Dad & Mom Smith's Visit

Dad & Mom Smith came to visit us in November, and it was so fun to have them here! Here they are at Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is held every year!

This is where they walk the horses around before taking them out to the racetrack.

These are the wagering windows where you bet on which horse is going to win.

We were so excited that we got to see several real horse races while we were there! We didn't even know there were going to be any ahead of time...we just stopped by Churchill Downs to see the place & show Dad & Mom, and when we got there we found out that there were races going on, and all we had to pay to see them was $5 for parking!

They broadcast the race up on a big screen so you can see the horses all the way around the track & the readerboard underneath is where they put all the betting stats.

Here are a couple guys from Extreme Makeover Home Edition at Churchill Downs watching the races & signing autographs. Ty Pennington is in the upper left corner of the picture. They were in town building a home for Patrick Henry Hughes, and the show is actually airing tomorrow night (2/17)!

After a long reprieve, we've decided to pick up blogging again, so if there's anybody out there who still checks this, here's what's been going on in our life for the last four months...

Here's our updated living room, with our new picture hanging above the couch. We actually decided to buy it for our anniversary.

It's a rather special picture since it is of the North Head lighthouse on the Washington coast. We have a snapshot of us standing in front of this lighthouse the first summer we were dating when Ryan visited JK & her family in Oregon for the first time.

This is us at a Revolutionary War reenactment at Locust Grove, a historical house built in the 1700s. Our friends Derek & Amy invited us to go along with them, and we had a great time!

Since we didn't really have the time or means to go anywhere on our first anniversary, we celebrated by going out to eat, which, to be honest, is really one of our favorite things to do, anyway! We ate out on Friday at Lynn's Paradise Cafe (GREAT food, weird restaurant) Saturday at Bravo (JK's favorite Italian place) & Sunday at Cheesecake Factory. (2 of these places we had gift cards to :] ).

We were so glad that Dad & Mom Smith came from Oregon to help us pack! It is amazing how much stuff you can fit in a one-bedroom apartment. We were SO grateful for their help!

We had to eat our wedding cake top a month before our first anniversary since we couldn't keep it frozen driving across the country.

All loaded up & ready to hit the road!

I (JK) cried as we left the brown hills and palm trees of SoCal. Ryan did not cry.

Here we are stuck at a rest stop just outside of Palm Springs after a tire stripped on our tow dolly (carrying our car). It took Penske over 2 hours to bring us a new dolly.

We were very glad we had a chance to stop in Texas to visit Joe & Mom...

There were about 23 Chili's off the freeway between San Antonio & Dallas. That is not really an exaggeration.

The first time I ever saw Dallas, TX.

I had no idea there was a river/lake/body of water in Dallas. It was kind of pretty.

Israel, Part 2

This was one of Ryan's favorite places. We're on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee, and the long hill in the distance that runs down to the water is a likely location of where Jesus cast the demons out of the demoniac and they went into the pigs who rushed down the steep bank into the sea (Mark 5). The reason Dr. Varner thinks this is the place is because there is no other place along the eastern shore where the steep hillside runs directly down into the water.

This is the Jordan River.

These are houses in Capernaum, and the lighter structure on the left is a synagogue that is standing on the foundation of the synagoge Jesus ministered in.

Here we are standing on Arbel overlooking the Sea of Galilee from the west side.

Behind that scaffolding is a 4000 year old mud brick gate that Abraham most likely walked through as he entered the city of Dan (after rescuing Lot & his family (Gen 14).

Here is Ryan in the spring where Gideon's men drank (Judges 7). I think Ryan would have been too smart to get chosen. :)

We are standing at Jezreel (where Ahab & Jezebel's palace was) overlooking the Jezreel Valley. The mountain on the horizon to the right is Mt. Gilboa where King Saul & Jonathan died in battle.

This is the most that's left of the 3500 year old (or older) collapsed walls of Jericho. It appears that this section of the wall was a house built into the wall. Could this have been Rahab's house...??

Ryan was REALLY excited to see Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. This is one of the main caves in which they were discovered.

Israel, Part One

We had a great trip, but we're sure happy to get back home! We didn't take a ton of pictures that would be interesting to many besides ourselves, but I'll try to pick a few good ones.

Ryan is proud of this picture he took from the airplane on the flight over.

Here is a not very good picture some of the remains of what they think might be King David's palace!

Here is Ryan inside the Jebusite water system tunnel that Joab crawled up so David could capture Jebus and make it his capital city (Jerusalem).

This is a neat drawing that gives you a good idea of what Old Testament Jerusalem would have looked like.

Here is Ryan standing on what may have been the Tower of Siloam that Jesus referred to which fell down & killed a bunch of people (Lk 13:4).

The New Testament Pool of Siloam which has only been discovered within the last couple of years. Unfortunately you can't see it very well since it is filled with water due to the rainstorm we experienced that day as we were walkng around Jerusalem. It never rains in Israel in May. Due to this untimely event we were prevented from walking through Hezekiah's tunnel. (We don't know how to rotate pictures on the blog yet--Can anyone tell us how?)

Ryan & Summer are standing inside what could be the tomb complex of King David & Solomon.

Here we are standing in Herod's palace complex at Caesarea with the Mediterranean Sea behind us. It is very possible that we are standing in the audience room where Paul gave his defense to Herod Agrippa when he was imprisoned there (Acts 25).

We are dressed in genuine Bedouin wedding clothes worn by our bus driver & his wife.

One of Ryan's favorite things was getting to have lunch at Joel, our bus driver's, house. Here is Joel's sister cooking pita in the pita oven. They made us pita pizza that was really yummy!
